KUALA LUMPUR – The federal government will introduce the targeted subsidy delivery system to assist the less fortunate as it plans to restructure subsidies of electricity, diesel, petrol and other social assistance schemes, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim
In tabling the 12th Malaysia Plan mid-term review today, he said the government is concerned about the burdened citizens due to the increasing cost of living and therefore, determined to improve the Targeted Subsidy delivery mechanism as one of its main shifts in the Madani economy.
Anwar assured that the less fortunate citizens will remain a priority for the government to be saved and remain assisted.
“The distribution of targeted subsidies and assistance to the citizens will be coordinated through the Main Database System (Padu) based on household data to enhance efficiency and government assistance monitoring.
“Savings from more targeted subsidies can be allocated accordingly,” he said in parliament here today.
Anwar maintained the government bears the responsibility to protect its people, especially the less fortunate. The targeted subsidy mechanism aims to ensure that the fate of these groups is protected and that they receive the benefits from the distributed assistance. – The Vibes, September 11, 2023
