PETALING JAYA -- Umno Youth will submit a memorandum to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to seek a review of the charges against Datuk Seri Najib Razak in his 1MDB-International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) case.

Its chief Dr Akmal Saleh said this follows the purported leaked memo from 2019 which alleged that prosecutors had recommended to then attorney-general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas to drop six charges against Najib and former Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah.

"Though police reports have been lodged on the alleged leaked memo, there has been no confirmation from the AG's Chambers on its authenticity," he said after an Umno Youth meeting in Kuala Lumpur today.

The memo had purportedly stated charges in relation to RM6.6 billion in payments by the government to the IPIC, which is linked to the 1MDB scandal, would not hold up in court.

"Umno Youth will adopt a more aggressive approach and travel across the country to collect signatures for the memorandum requesting that the case be reviewed," he said.

He said Umno Youth believed that Najib was a victim of selective prosecution.

"We will then submit the memorandum to the king, seeking his advice on what should be the next step," he added. -- The Vibes, September 12, 2023
