GEORGE TOWN – A BMW crashed into a Perodua Bezza after driving against traffic along the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway here early this morning.

Both drivers suffered abdominal and chest injuries.

The BMW driver is currently warded at a private hospital while the Bezza driver is under observation at the emergency unit of the Penang Hospital.

Northeast district police head Soffian Santong confirmed the case, saying that police will investigate the case under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.

If found guilty, the accused can be imprisoned up to 15 - years and a maximum fine of between RM5,000 and RM10,000.

The incident, which was captured on social media by passersby, saw the BMW driver taking a wrong turn as she exited the Penang Bridge around 12.30am today before colliding with the Bezza.

The latter was heading from Sg Petani towards Mt Erskine on the island.

Soffian urged road users to be careful when using the lanes on the expressway.

Police are also seeking witnesses to contact the investigating officer Insp Mohd Azli Khairil Mat Lazin at 019 594 6806 to assist investigations. – The Vibes, October 2, 2023
