PETALING JAYA – Police arrested a 28-year-old man over social media posts containing criminal threats against Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director, Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, said the man, suspected to be the owner or operator of the Twitter account @syahmisufi8, was arrested in Setapak.

“Police have received four reports over the same issue. The suspect is remanded for three days to facilitate investigations,” he said in a statement.

He also urged the public not to speculate on the case, as it could hamper investigations.

“We would also like to advise the people to be extra cautious when it comes to sensitive issues, especially those involving public security when using social media,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. – The Vibes, November 4, 2023
