SEPANG – Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh hopes to see more female icons taking home an accolade from the ministry’s National Youth Premier Awards.
Speaking to reporters after the event last night, the Segambut MP said the ministry will continue to find ways to encourage more females among the youth community to come out on top and be an inspiration to others.
“This event is organised yearly to encourage every youth in the country to continue to progress and bring positive change to the nation,” she said.
“Despite having only one female winner tonight (last night), that is the Best Female category, I wish to see more females winning the awards.
“Moving forward, the ministry and affiliated agencies will figure out what are the problems faced by our youth today and what are the appropriate interventions, through facts and figures, that we could do to ensure our programmes are relevant for them.”
Hannah was met at the National Youth Premier Awards 2022 ceremony held at Sama Sama Hotel, Sepang.
Also present were Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abd Halim and secretary-general Datuk Jana Santhiran Muniayan.
A total of 15 award recipients accepted their appreciation and recognition last night.
The main categories were the best Youth Organisation, Male and Female Individual, Emas Remaja Perdana, and Special Award category.
Newly-introduced youth icon categories included Ikon Belia Karismatik, Ikon Belia Kelestarian Alam, Ikon Belia Reka Tekno, Ikon Belia Influencer (Social Media), Ikon Belia Sanjungan Budi, Ikon Belia Youth-Biz, and Ikon Belia OKU.
In her opening speech, Yeoh shared that the youth community is the backbone in the country’s development as they, aged 15 to 30 years old, represent 27.8% or 9.1 million people.
As such, the implementation of the National Youth Premier Awards since 1988 has been a significant platform to recognise their efforts, dedication, and commitment. – The Vibes, December 18, 2022
