KUALA LUMPUR – The Youth and Sports Ministry held a coordination meeting with state excos today, a first after four years.
It was chaired by minister Hannah Yeoh, who said the meeting is a crucial part of the ministry’s engagement with various sports stakeholders to manage key issues at the grassroots level.
“The meeting is carried out to design and coordinate work between the federal and state governments to ensure holistic development of youth and sports.
“The meeting also aims to enable the ministry to identify and discuss current issues in youth and sports at the grassroots level, as well as approve proposed actions in an effort to improve youth and sports development.
“This is important because we cannot give room to politicise the youth and sports portfolio for the sake of Malaysia’s future and its reputation,” Hannah said to the media before the meeting.
Also present at the meeting was Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim.
Sarawak Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and Sabah Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Alfred Angin also joined the session.
Yeoh noted that the meeting is expected to be held twice a year.
The last meeting was held in 2018 and was chaired by then-minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
Hannah, the second female youth and sports minister, had previously met with able-bodied athletes, para-athletes, national sports associations, as well as para-sports associations.
A total of 320 national athletes and 150 NSAs showed up at the town hall. – The Vibes, January 17, 2023
