PUTRAJAYA – From today onwards, the public will have easier access to information on available sports facilities nationwide after the Youth and Sports Ministry launched an updated directory today on its official website.
Its minister Hannah Yeoh said national sports associations and sports enthusiasts will be able to get information about the sports facilities available under the ministry at this website.
Yeoh added the public could access the directory and search the existing list according to location and type of sports.
“There are currently 1,135 facilities listed on the (ministry’s) website. This directory was created to make it easier for the public to identify suitable and nearby facilities,” she said in a press conference here today.
“The directory also matches the needs of sports associations and the facilities available for use.
“This is one of the issues that we are trying to address, the lack of training facilities raised by the national sports association during the townhall session held on December 22-23 last year.
“It is also to assess whether there is a discrepancy in the infrastructure across the parliamentary constituencies that creates a mismatch between facilities and needs according to the location and type of sport.”
Yeoh added the system would encourage legislators to be more strategic and minimise the issue of ad hoc development projects that were previously built due to a lack of planning.
It could also ensure the appropriate use of funds for future infrastructure development. – The Vibes, April 4, 2023
