KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia kicked off their Sudirman Cup campaign with a win against Australia in their Group C match today. 

The first fixture at the Suzhou Olympic Sports Centre in China saw mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai beat Kenneth Zhe-Gronya Somerville 21-17, 21-14 in 28 minutes to give Malaysia a 1-0 lead. 

It was a walk in the park for men’s singles ace Lee Zii Jia as he thrashed Ricky Tang 21-3, 21-13 in 25 minutes for Malaysia’s second point. 

Malaysia sealed the win after women’s singles player K. Letshanaa took down Tiffany Ho 21-19, 21-12.

It took the 19-year-old shuttler 41 minutes to register her win. 

Men’s doubles duo Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik kept the momentum going for Malaysia by sweeping aside Rayne Wang-Jack Yu 21-7, 21-14 in just 24 minutes.

Malaysia then proceeded to sweep the match after women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah defeated Kaitlyn Ea-Gronya Somerville 21-12, 21-13.

Malaysia will play their second Group C match tomorrow against India, before taking on Taipei on Wednesday. – The Vibes, May 14, 2023
