KUALA LUMPUR – National men’s doubles pair Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun conquered their tough challenge of defeating Indonesian veterans Mohammad Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan in the quarterfinals at the Malaysia Masters today.

The world number 26 Malaysians progressed to the semifinals tomorrow after they won 23-21, 21-17 in 38 minutes at the Axiata Arena.

The first set was a close battle between the two sides with the lead constantly switching hands since the match started, but Wei Chong-Kai Vun prevailed to gain the lead heading into the second set.

Having lost their only previous meeting to the sixth seed Indonesians at the 2022 Singapore Open, the Malaysians equalled the head-to-head score this time and move into the final four tomorrow.

After handing the Indonesians the upset, Wei Chong-Kai Vun credited preparation for their win against the more experienced opponents.

“We watched their gameplay before heading into the match, and when we entered the court, we just tried to play our best game against them.

“We are really happy with the results because they are not opponents who are easy to beat,” they said.

Their win today also meant it is the first time the pair have entered a Super 500 tournament semifinals. – The Vibes, May 26, 2023
