AN earthquake with a magnitude of 4.1 on the Richter Scale struck central Myanmar on Friday morning, according to both Indian and Myanmar seismic monitoring agencies.

The tremor, which occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres, is considered shallow and therefore more prone to triggering aftershocks.

In a statement issued by the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) in India, the earthquake was recorded at 08:02:14 IST. The coordinates provided place the epicentre at latitude 18.34°N and longitude 95.89°E, within Myanmar's territory.

The NCS confirmed the event in a post on X, formerly Twitter, stating: *"EQ of M: 4.1, On: 11/04/2025 08:02:14 IST, Lat: 18.34 N, Long: 95.89 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Myanmar."*

Meanwhile, Myanmar’s Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) also reported the quake, noting it struck at approximately 10:59 a.m. local time. The epicentre was located around five miles southeast of Wundwin, a town situated in the Mandalay Region.

There have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties linked to the tremor. However, due to its shallow depth, authorities are likely to monitor the area for potential aftershocks. – April 11, 2025
