BAKU – It is time to start sharing experience to counter anti-Muslim intolerance and hatred, said a Council of Europe official.

Daniel Holtgen, who is director of communications and special representative on anti-Semitism, anti-Islam and other forms of religious intolerance and hate crime, tweeted this in response to an article by Deutschlandradio, which said Germany has registered an increase in attacks against Muslims.

The article said there was a 2% increase in such attacks last year from 2019, with most of the perpetrators being right-wing extremists.

“The final numbers are likely to be even higher.

“Cases registered late will be added to the count in the next few weeks.”

It also quoted German politician Ulla Jelpke as saying the majority of attacks go unreported “out of shame”. – Bernama, February 9, 2021
