A Tourist's Guide to Love continues to travel far and wide, securing the No 3 spot in this week’s Global Top 10 ranking for Films (English) with a total of 13.4 million hours viewed this week, from April 17 to 23.
Starring Rachael Leigh Cook and Scott Ly, the rom-com also entered the Top 10 for films in 78 markets across Asia, Europe, Africa, and Oceania.
Set almost entirely in Vietnam, the film’s global appeal has further placed the beautiful country on the international stage. Vietnamese-Irish screenwriter Eirene Tran Donohue shared her thoughts on presenting a refreshing and authentic side of VIetnam to the world, “I am so thrilled by the global reception of A Tourist’s Guide To Love and especially the overwhelmingly positive response from Vietnamese audiences around the world.
"I’ve heard from so many people saying how proud they are to finally be able to share their culture and country with the world. And that they’re so grateful to finally see themselves represented on screen in a positive way.”
“While on the surface it may seem like a standard rom-com, for many it is so much more. Growing up there were no Hollywood stories about Vietnam that weren’t about the war. Vietnam isn’t a war story. It’s a love story and deserves to be seen and celebrated by the world. I hope that this movie can help change perceptions around the world and open doors for more Vietnamese stories to be told,” Donohue added.
Lead actress and producer Rachael Leigh Cook commented, "I can speak for the entire cast and crew when I say that seeing the film on the #3 spot in the Global Top 10 film ranking this week is nothing short of thrilling. Celebrating the film’s international success, Meritorious Artist honoree Nsưt Lê Thiện could not hide her emotions, saying that, “I’m overjoyed to know how our rich Vietnamese culture and breathtaking landscapes are now appreciated by many around the world. As a Vietnamese, I am so proud to see our unique, beautiful stories being told through the lens of an international cast and crew.”
Sharing her pride in the film, rising star Quinn Trúc Trần shared, “I am so happy to be a part of the movie and grateful to see audiences around the world fall in love with it as well as Vietnam. It’s such a fortune for me to play Anh and I truly hope that my character has somewhat represented the energetic and lively young generation of Vietnam.”
Helmed by director Steven Tsuchida, the film showcases the very best of Vietnam, and in producer and star Rachael Leigh Cook’s words, “presents a compelling love letter to Vietnam in all its glory, with heart and humour.”
With support from Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, A Tourist's Guide to Love is the first international film production in Vietnam after the Covid-19 pandemic, involving over 200 local crew members and vendors including those in the production, domestic travel, and retail industries. – The Vibes, April 27, 2023
