MUHAMMAD Nazmi Rosli, a dedicated English teacher from SK Long Sebangang, Sarawak, has been announced as one of the Top 50 Finalists for the prestigious Global Teacher Prize.
This recognition places him among the world’s most outstanding educators, further shining a spotlight on the strength and talent of Malaysian teachers on the global stage.
In a statement today, Pemimpin said Cikgu Nazmi’s journey to this global achievement is a culmination of years of dedication to education and innovation.
"His groundbreaking work with the Filpen Club has not only empowered his students but also addressed critical community challenges.
"While serving in his previous school at Sarawak’s SK Luagan — a rural school catering to a B40 community — Cikgu Nazmi spearheaded a film-based entrepreneurship programme that taught students the art of film development, marketing, and financial literacy.
"This initiative not only nurtured leadership and creative expression but also helped the school raise funds to purchase a boat, ensuring students could continue attending school despite frequent flooding.
"Today, Cikgu Nazmi continues to scale this initiative with plans to host a statewide Filpen Festival in Sarawak, enabling students across the state to develop their skills and creativity through film production," read the statement.
Pemimpin is an organisation focused on providing high-quality, evidence-based leadership training for teachers and school leaders from government schools in Malaysia.
“It is truly humbling to represent Malaysia on this global stage. This journey from winning the Malaysia Teacher Prize to being named a Global Teacher Prize Finalist has been both unexpected and deeply rewarding.
"I dedicate this recognition to my students, who have always been my inspiration and guiding light. Their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn are at the heart of every project we undertake together," said Cikgu Nazmi.
Samuel Isaiah, the executive director of Pemimpin said Nazmi has dedicated his career to bridging the gap between his students and the wider world, using creativity, resilience, and a profound belief in the power of education to ignite change.
