MUSIC

Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides, SOPHIE (Pictured above)

Sophie Xeon’s untimely death just two Saturdays ago from a fall in her home in Athens has cut short the many talents of the Glaswegian DJ, producer and pioneer of PC Music. The artiste’s brand of avant-garde dance pop brought fame and attention, leading her to work with the likes of Madonna and Charli XCX.

'Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides' is SOPHIE’s Grammy-winning debut album and an exploration of an eclectic mix of dance styles including 80s synth-pop, ambient-house, industrial techno, drone and more.

DESIGN

Star Wine Decanter, Zieher Germany

A recent recipient of the Red Dot Design award, the Star wine decanter is the hand-blown glass creation of Oliver Zieher and Detlef Greiner-Perth. The futuristic centric star inside the decanter isn’t just there for aesthetics alone. When swinging, its filigree rays also help gently unfold the many complex aromas of your Blueprint Cab-Sauv 2017 vintage, something conventional decanters can only catch on the surface.

FILM

Minari, A24 Films

Director Lee Isaac Chung’s tender, semi-autobiographical look at a Korean immigrant family’s pursuit of the American Dream in rural Arkansas is a personal story he wanted to convey to his daughter about his roots.

The film stars Steven Yeun and Will Patton and has already garnered critical acclaim, winning US Dramatic Grand Jury Prize and US Dramatic Audience Award at its Sundance premiere while the American Film Institute has hailed 'Minari' as one of the best films of 2020. It is slated for Academy Award nominations.

GEAR

Wireless Headphones, Mercedes-Benz

Is Mercedes-Benz cornering the market on high-end audio headphones? It would seem so with this pair of award-winning Bluetooth headphones.

Like the automobiles produced by the car marque, luxurious comfort is paramount with a soft faux leather padded headband and fitted earpieces for maximum wearer comfort, even over extended periods of listening.

The headphones come in a glossy piano lacquer finish with active noise cancellation and transparency mode so you can order your latte to-go without taking off your headphones while a touchpad on the right earpiece allows for simple, intuitive use.

HOROLOGY

Limited edition Blancpain

The limited edition of fifty platinum timepieces (this being the year of the metal Ox) is an exceptional showcase of Blancpain’s savoir-faire, the watchmakers being the first in the world to produce a wristwatch featuring the Chinese calender back in 2012.

Powered by the 3638 caliber, the Villeret Calendrier Chinois Traditionnel reproduces the lunar calendar with the specific animal of the Chinese zodiac appearing at the 12 o’clock aperture. A non-limited red gold version with a finely guilloché oscillating weight is also available. – The Vibes, February 10, 2021
