A FORMER printer for Harakah – PAS’ news publication and political organ – has obtained a summary judgment for the Islamist party to settle a debt of RM656,233.69.

The Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court this afternoon approved NAJ Press Resources (M) Sdn Bhd’s application for the summary judgment, which entails a decision made without a full trial, against PAS and two other defendants – PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and party publisher Galeri Media Serbanika Sdn Bhd.

Judge Lailatul Zuraida Harron@Harun made the order after allowing the application of NAJ Press Resources as the plaintiff to obtain a summary judgement.

The matter was confirmed by lawyer Surya Putra Taulan, who represented NAJ Press Resources, and lawyer Mohd Faizi Che Abu, who represented the defendants, when contacted by the media today, Berita Harian reported.

The plaintiff filed an bid to enter judgement against the defendants on October 2 on the grounds the defendants had no meritorious defence and no arguable issues. In the writ of summons and statement of claim filed on July 11, the plaintiff claimed it had made several claims for the balance of the service fee for printing the Harakah newspaper.

The plaintiff claimed it sent a letter of demand dated April 3, 2019, to obtain the balance of the payment, and the defendant, via a letter dated April 8, 2019, acknowledged the arrears and promised repayment but failed to make any.

The plaintiff said it sent a reminder to PAS and Harakah dated August 5, 2019, through Takiyuddin as the party’s secretary-general, to demand the outstanding payment, but has not received any payment. – The Vibes, December 5, 2023.
