A 50-year-old man from Kota Tinggi, Johor did not think twice about jumping into a monsoon drain to rescue a woman in trouble.
The woman was struggling to cling to the back of her submerged Perodua Myvi after her car skidded into the drain at KM42.5 of the Johor Bahru - Kota Tinggi Highway.
The incident which occurred yesterday was caught on video and uploaded on Orang Kota Tinggi, a community Facebook group.
The man has since been identified as Choo Ngiam Choong, who leapt over the guardrail into the drain without any hesitation to assist the woman.
He said he was on his way to breakfast at 8am with his friend when they saw the woman.
The incident occurred when the 37-year-old driver and her 43-year-old passenger were travelling towards Kota Tinggi, Johor.
According to Kota Tinggi district police chief Supt Hussin Zamora, the driver escaped injuries, while her passenger sustained minor injuries.
She was taken to the Kota Tinggi Hospital.
The car was swept away and has yet to be recovered.
"I am happy I was able to save the woman and prevent anything unfortunate from happening," said Choo, the 10th of 12 siblings as reported by The New Straits Times.
He said he was a good swimmer and was confident he could help the woman.
