AUTHORITIES have opened 80 investigation papers against GISB Holdings and rescued nearly 600 children from care homes operated by the company.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said a total 592 children have been rescued and 359 individuals associated with GISBH have been detained.
“The inquiries into GISBH are based on several legal frameworks, including the Child Act 2001 [Act 611], the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 and the Penal Code,” he said.
He also said the police may take some time to finalise the investigation before submitting their findings to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC).
"The decision on whether prosecutions will follow will ultimately rest with the AGC,” he added.
Meanwhile, Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Hishamudin Yunus said GISB Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd is among 81 companies that may face financial penalties for allegedly participating in a price-fixing agreement for umrah travel services in Malaysia from early 2023.
In a statement today, he said that a proposed decision has been issued against all the involved companies.
"MyCC found that all these companies, which are members of a registered association in Malaysia, had agreed to set a floor price for both economy and premium umrah packages during several meetings in early 2023.
"MyCC also found that the association involved had announced to the media to inform the public about the agreed floor prices," he said.
He said MyCC will only issue a final decision after considering the representations by these companies along with evidence obtained during the investigation process.- September 30, 2024
