SARAWAK DAP grassroots members want the party to challenge Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) in every state constituency the SUPP will be contesting in the next state election.

SUPP is a component party of the state ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) while Sarawak DAP is a component of Sarawak Pakatan Harapan.

Sarawak DAP Kuching members from the Arang Road branch held a meeting recently and passed a resolution calling for a full-scale challenge against SUPP-GPS in the interest of the rakyat in this state.

Branch chairman Soo Tien Ren said party grassroots members want Sarawak DAP to challenge SUPP in every state constituency in all urban and semi-urban areas which SUPP traditionally contested.

"Wherever SUPP will contest, DAP must challenge them. We in Sarawak DAP must give the voters a choice.

"We want to provide the rakyat with dedicated services to better their standard of life and ensure fairness to people of all races and ethnic backgrounds.

"Sarawak DAP will be their voice in fighting for their rights and for the progress of the rakyat," he said.

Sarawak DAP's PH partners are Sarawak Parti Keadilan Rakyat and Sarawak Parti Amanah.

On Aug 15, it was reported that Sarawak PH will be given autonomy by its national leadership to decide on a full-scale election assault against GPS in the state election due in 2026.

Sources said that PH national leaders will leave the decision fully to the Sarawak PH.

On Aug 11, Parti Keadilan Rakyat announced that it had set up its Sarawak State Elections Committee to prepare for the coming state polls.

The committee was set up following a state-level leadership meeting in the state capital Kuching.

Out of the 82 state constituencies, GPS controls 79, Sarawak DAP two (Chong Chieng Jen in Padungan and Violet Yong in Pending) and one Independent (See Chee How in Batu Lintang). - October 6, 2024
