A STATE minister has called for more undercover operations by the police and other drug enforcement agencies in urban and rural communities to root out the sources of drug supplies and distribution activities in Sarawak.

Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, state Minister for Women, Community Wellbeing and Early Childhood Development today said her ministry has been informed that the anti-narcotics unit of Bukit Aman police headquarters will be beefing up enforcement throughout Sarawak.

"We are happy to hear that there will be more personnel to be stationed in numerous districts in Sarawak.

"We are confident this will help to reduce the drug menace and we hope more undercover operations will be carried out throughout Sarawak.

"We must tackle the drug menace by getting at the root sources of these drug supplies," she said in a press statement.

A Sarawak national lawmaker had also mentioned that the drug flow from Kalimantan into Sarawak at the border region in the heart of central Sarawak is getting worse, along with the trafficking of illegal foreign workers into this state from those porous border pockets.

These pressing issues have been brought to the attention of the Federal Government.

Member of Parliament for Hulu Rajang, Datuk Wilson Ugak, said he had since highlighted these issues in the Dewan Rakyat sitting and called for immediate action. - October 25, 2024
