TERENGGANU Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has denied that his resignation as Perikatan Nasional (PN) treasurer-general was due to a rift within the political coalition.

He said his resignation was part of efforts to “strengthen the coalition”.

“There is no rift or discord involved. We are just finding ways to strengthen PN for it to become a stronger political consensus as we prepare to face the next general election (GE16)

“Just read my comments on Facebook. You can interpret from there (the reason I resigned)," he reportedly said.

In that post on December 11, he wrote: “I try to do the right thing at the right time. They may just be little things, but usually they make the difference between winning and losing”.

Samsuri recently submitted his resignation letter to PN's management.

The resignation came as a surprise as Samsuri is considered a key figure in Pas, one of the component parties of PN.

Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man confirmed that Samsuri had submitted his resignation letter and that Pas would not issue any official statement on the matter. - December 15, 2024
