SABAH DAP has reiterated its firm stance against corruption as it continues to reassess its position in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS)-led administration.

Its secretary, Vivian Wong Shir Yee, said corruption allegations involving the state government must be handled with diligence to uphold integrity and public trust.

“With the MACC having completed its investigation and submitted its findings to the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP), we trust that the DPP will conduct a careful and impartial review before taking necessary action,” she said in a statement.

Her remarks came after MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki’s claim that the bribery videos exposed by a news portal lacked credibility.

Wong also backed DAP national legal bureau chairman Ramkarpal Singh, who dismissed claims of insufficient information in the probe as “absurd.”

Earlier today, Ramkarpal who is a deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institiutional Reform) said there was prima facie evidence in the case, dismissing claims of insufficient information as “absurd.”

“We have repeatedly urged the MACC to finalise its investigation so the matter can proceed through the judicial process,” said Wong.

The issue has reignited debate over Sabah DAP’s future in the state government.

The party was granted full authority by DAP’s Central Executive Committee last December to reassess its position but has yet to reach a decision.

Sabah DAP initially planned to bring the matter to Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) for deliberation but postponed it due to Chinese New Year celebrations.

Party chairman Phoong Jin Zhe said the delay allows them to gather feedback from the ground before making a final call.

However, during a recent DAP women and youth convention, Phoong confirmed that Sabah DAP would remain in the state government until the matter could be brought up for deliberation with other Sabah PH allies.

“PH Sabah remains committed to good governance and will carefully assess its position within the state government from time to time,” Wong said.

The MACC maintains that the case is progressing according to legal procedures, but Sabah DAP continues to push for transparency and accountability. - February 18, 2025.
