NOT many Malaysians know that one of the most expensive car number plates in the United Kingdom belongs to the Malaysian government.
While the highest amount for a number plate in Malaysia was RM1.75 million paid by His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim for the ‘FFF1’ number plate, the '1M' plate is estimated at RM5.7 million.
This was highlighted recently in the UK-based TikTok account @numberplatehistory.
In the video, the plate, issued to the Malaysian embassy is seen on a black Mercedes-Benz S350.
According to the video, the plate uses a dateless format and is among the most expensive in the UK which cannot be bought by normal citizens.
It an embassy plate, it is non-transferable outside of their vehicles.
According to the post, documents showed that the number plate was already in use by 1974 through the researcher late Noel Woodall. - March 21, 2025
