THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has remanded two individuals including a ‘Datuk’ suspected of submitting a claim containing false financial details of approximately RM450 million.
A two-day remand order until May 6 was issued for the suspect with the title ‘Datuk’ aged around 60, and five days until May 9, 2025, for another suspect aged around 50.
The remands were issued by Registrar Siti Roslizawati Mohd Zanin after an application by the MACC at the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court this morning.
According to sources, the two male suspects were arrested at about 7pm yesterday when they appeared to give statements at the MACC headquarters.
“Initial investigations found that the two suspects are believed to have submitted false claims worth approximately RM450 million using sukuk funds and obtained facilities from a regional office in a highway construction project in the Klang Valley worth approximately RM1.3 billion.
“This follows previous arrests involving false material claims worth approximately RM360 million while the total value of these false claims is now approximately RM800 million,” said the sources.
The suspect, with the title ‘Datuk’, was previously remanded for four days from April 30 to May 3 in a case involving a false claim of approximately RM360 million.
However, he was remanded again to assist in the investigation of another false claim case, this time involving an amount of approximately RM450 million.
Last week, five individuals were remanded in connection with this case and four of them were released on MACC bail.
Meanwhile, MACC Senior Director of the Investigation Division Datuk Zainul Darus, when contacted, confirmed the arrests and said that the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009. – May 5, 2025
