A MAN was beaten, stripped and left naked in a bush area by an ah long syndicate after trying to borrow money.

Terengganu Police Chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairuddin said the 24-year-old victim lodged a report at the Kuala Terengganu District Police Headquarters yesterday.

He said the Commercial Crime Investigation Department’s (JSJK) Intelligence and Operations Team arrested five men aged 16 to 39 through a special operation called Op Vulture which was carried out from yesterday until today.

Based on the report, the victim contacted a suspect (a member of the syndicate) via the WhatsApp application to borrow money.

“However, the victim was taken into a car, beaten, stripped and left naked in a bush area near Bukit Khor, Marang.

“The victim’s personal belongings including a mobile phone, wallet and identity card were also taken,” he said in a statement here today.
Mohd Khairi said that all the suspects admitted to carrying out illegal money lending activities around Kuala Terengganu since March.

“Among the items seized in the operation were two Proton Saga cars, five mobile phones and clothes belonging to the victim which were recovered based on information from the suspect.

“A review of past records found that three of the five suspects had criminal records and related cases,” he said.

He said that all the suspects were remanded for four days to assist in the investigation and the case is being investigated under Section 5(2) and 29B of the Money Lenders Act 1951. – May 21, 2025
