POLICE in Perlis seized 365 kgs of suspected syabu worth approximately RM13.14 million when inspecting a vehicle near Kampung Belat Batu, Beseri, Padang Besar, yesterday.

During the inspection at around 3.30am, a 40-year-old local man was also arrested and his Proton Waja seized.

State Police Chief Datuk Muhammad Abdul Halim said that during the inspection, 17 sacks were found containing suspected syabu weighing 365kg with a value of approximately RM13.14 million.

“The suspect’s modus operandi is believed to be using the forest area around Padang Besar as a transit before supplies are sent to the south of the country.

"Police believe the drugs were brought in in stages to be collected before being distributed by the syndicate," he said as reported.

Muhammad said initial investigations found that the total amount seized could be used by approximately 3.6 million addicts.

He said that initial screening also found that the suspect tested positive for Methamphetamine and had several past drug-related records.

“The suspect has been remanded for seven days starting yesterday and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“The police are also actively tracking down another suspect who is believed to be involved in this case,” he said.

In a separate development, Muhammad said, the police also managed to arrest a 30-year-old Thai man in Taman Singgah Sana, Padang Besar, with two compressed pieces believed to be marijuana, at around 2.15am, yesterday.

He said further inspection found that the compressed pieces of marijuana were hidden in a bin and were estimated to be worth RM6,200.

“Initial screening found that the suspect tested positive for Methamphetamine and the total amount of drugs seized could be used by 20,000 addicts,” he said.

The suspect has been remanded for seven days starting yesterday and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act. – June 2, 2025
