SINGER Naim Daniel pleaded not guilty at the Putrajaya Sessions Court to a sexual offence charge against a 17-year-old girl last month.

Naim, whose real name is Muhammad Na'im Daniel Baharin, 28, made the plea after the charge was read before Judge Datin M Kunasundary in proceedings held in a closed-door proceeding.

According to the charge, the singer was charged with physically assaulting the girl for sexual purposes at a hotel at 8.56pm on May 19.

The charge was made under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 which carries a jail sentence of not more than 20 years and caning, if convicted.

During the proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Izzah Shaharuddin recommended that the accused be granted bail of RM15,000 with one surety.

"It includes additional conditions, the accused must surrender their passport to the court, and not harass the victim and prosecution witnesses," she said.

Naim was represented by lawyers, Mohd Irwan Sumadi and Amirul Ridzuan Hanif.

The court allowed the accused bail of RM12,000 with one surety and fulfilling the additional conditions proposed by the prosecution.

The court set August 18 for mention of the case. Naim paid the bail.

Naim is known for his roles in TV series such as "Projek: High Council", "Lelaki Lingkungan Cinta", and "I.D".

In 2020, his song "Sumpah" won the Best Song award at the 34th Anugerah Juara Lagu. - June 17, 2025
