POLICE raided a dinner party at a bungalow on Jalan Kemumin in Kota Bahru, Kelantan, believed to have been attended by nearly 100 gay men.

The raid, which was carried out based on intelligence and public information at 1am in mid-June, also led to the seizure of hundreds of condoms and HIV medication.

Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said that during the raid, only 20 men were arrested, while the others are believed to have returned home.

"We received information that the gay group had rented a bungalow for a dinner party among themselves and based on our intelligence, the meeting was attended by nearly 100 gays.

"However, when the raid was carried out, most of them had already returned and 20 men were arrested. We also seized HIV medication and condoms.

"We believe the meeting was held for illicit sexual activity based on the discovery of condoms and HIV medication, but the sexual activity had not yet taken place," he said as reported by Berita Harian.

He said this at a press conference after attending the police monthly gathering.

He said that upon interrogating the 20 men arrested, they admitted to being HIV positive and providing free 'services' to those interested.

"Of the 20 men, we successfully charged three of them in court as there was a video of illicit sexual intercourse between men on their mobile phones.

"All those who participated in the meeting were between 20 and 30-years-old, from Kelantan and each had a job. The meeting was also uploaded on social media to attract more participants," he said.

Elaborating further, he said, police would conduct further intelligence on the extent to which the activity was taking place in the state.

"We do not know how serious such cases are in Kelantan since this is the first. However, we will increase further intelligence to curb such activities," he said. – July 17, 2025
