NETIZENS have praised two Umno leaders for their calm and matured manner in dealing with 'upside down' Jalur Gemilang incidents in their respective areas.

In the first incident recently, Kepala Batas Umno division chief Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican won praises after he discreetly handled an upside-down flag issue without kicking up a fuss.

The Penang Umno leader only explained the correct way the national flag should be put up to the persons involved and refrained from any further action.

His actions even won praise from Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil who said Reezal’s conduct in resolving the issue with calm and respect was “good”, unlike those who chose to take matters into their own hands.

Fahmi reminded political parties to let the authorities act in such cases, instead of resorting to intimidation.

In another more recent incident, Melaka Science, Technology, and Communications deputy exco Datuk Mohd Noor Helmy Abdul Halem was also praised for his clam and professional handling of a similar issue.

He noticed a video of an upside down Jalur Gemilang at a factory in Batu Berendam, which was because it had been blown off the pole.

Instead of jumping to conclusions and kicking up a fuss, he probed the incident by going through CCTV footage.

He then discovered that the flag was not put up wrongly but was not properly tied to the flagpole, causing it to become loose, tangled and land upside down.

“Just wait for an official statement (from the factory). This is merely a statement from the ‘YB kampung’ before anything ridiculous happens," he wrote on his Facebook.

Netizens praised Helmy and his “professional” and “harmonious” ways in resolving problems.

Some also referred to Umno Youth Chief, Dr Akmal Saleh, and compared Helmy’s calm approach to Akmal’s, and pointed out that Akmal has a lot to learn. - August 18, 2025
