BERSATU youth chief Muhammad Hilman Idham, pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court to a charge of causing public fear through a statement uploaded to his TikTok account last month.
The Gombak Setia state assemblyman made the plea after the charge was read out before Magistrate Amira Abd Aziz.
“I will fight and ask to be tried,” he said.
Based on the charge, Muhammad Hilman, 36, is charged with making statements that are likely to cause public fear and incite any person to commit an offence against public order.
The statement was uploaded via the TikTok account ‘alfah.channel.tv’ and was seen and heard by police officers from the Commercial Crime Investigation Department, Bukit Aman Police Headquarters, on July 30 at 2.09 pm.
The charges were brought under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code which provides for a prison sentence of up to two years or a fine or both, if convicted.
Kuala Lumpur Director of Public Prosecutions, Datuk Badiuszaman Ahmad, offered bail of RM10,000.
However, lawyer Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali, who represented the accused, applied for minimum bail on the grounds that his client had provided full cooperation throughout the investigation.
“The accused is a well-known elected representative and is not at risk of absconding,” he said.
He proposed bail at RM3,000 without additional conditions to enable the accused to continue to carry out his duties as an assemblyman.
Apart from Muhammad Rafique, the accused was also represented by Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, Zolazrai Zolkapli, Alias Rasman and Afiqa Nardin.
The court then set bail at RM4,000 with one surety, and the case was set for mention on October 9 for the submission of documents. - August 20, 2025
