THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is investigating assets suspected to be owned by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in the United Kingdom (UK) and Switzerland.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said they are not focusing investigation on just one country, but also examining information from other relevant countries.

“There are (other countries being investigated). It is true that we are also looking at other countries such as Switzerland,” he said when asked about the investigation into Dr. Mahathir’s assets abroad other than the UK.

However, Azam did not elaborate on the details of the investigation, whether it involved direct cooperation with the authorities in Switzerland.

“We are still collaborating with the UK, including the IACCC (International Anti-Corruption Coordination Centre) from the UK, one of the authorities in the UK that is assisting us if there are any assets involving Dr. Mahathir and there has been no development yet,” he said.

Previously, Dr Mahathir had joked about Azam’s statement regarding the claim that he owns property in the UK by saying: “Apparently I have property in the UK. I don’t know. Please let me know so that I can claim this property.”

The insinuation came after Azam stated that the MACC was seeking detailed information from UK authorities on assets allegedly belonging to Mahathir. – September 24, 2025
