Police have recorded statements from 148 witnesses to date - October 20, 2025

POLICE will apply to extend the remand of the 14-year-old male student who stabbed the late Yap Shing Xuen to death at a secondary school in Bandar Utama.

Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat, said the application will be made as soon as the remand on the teenager ends tomorrow.

"The second remand application will be made at 8am tomorrow at the Petaling Jaya Magistrate's Court and the investigation papers are expected to be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor the day after tomorrow for further instructions.

"We have recorded statements from 148 witnesses to date," he said in a brief statement as reported by Berita Harian.

Earlier, the media reported that the student was remanded for seven days starting October 15.

The remand order was issued by Magistrate Shahril Anuar Ahmad Mustapha at the Petaling Jaya Magistrate's Court.

Shing Xuen, 16, was found dead in the school toilet on October 14.

Two sharp weapons believed to have been used in the attack were seized at the scene. – October 20, 2025
