MIC has not made any decision to leave Barisan Nasional (BN), said its president, Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran.
Although MIC members including Deputy President, Datuk Seri M Saravanan have the right to express their views, he said the most important thing is that decisions must be made by consensus.
This is because matters involving the party's direction do not 'belong' to a particular individual.
It is understood that the decision on whether the party will remain with BN or not will be finalised at the MIC General Meeting on 16 November.
"The decision on the party's direction is not an individual opinion, although all members, including the Deputy President, have the right to give their opinion on all issues concerning the party.
"But the ultimate decision involving matters such as the party's direction must be a joint one. So the final decision on whether to leave BN or not has not been determined," he told Berita Harian.
He was responding to former UMNO Supreme Council Member Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman's revelation that MIC would be leaving BN next month.
Based on a video uploaded on Tajuddin's TikTok account, the former Pasir Salak MP claimed that he obtained the information from Saravanan during the Deepavali celebration at the Tapah MP's residence.
According to Tajuddin, Saravanan was said to be dissatisfied with several things that prompted MIC to decide to leave BN next month.
However, Tajuddin did not elaborate on the reason why MIC wanted to leave the party coalition, saying it was sensitive and confidential.
Apart from MIC, MCA was also rumored to be leaving BN, but this was denied by its president, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
Speaking to BH yesterday, the Ayer Hitam Member of Parliament said that MCA had no problems with BN.
BN Chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had earlier said that BN was open and would not prevent any component party from leaving the coalition.
Referring to MIC's action to leave the coalition, the UMNO President said that it was up to them because there was no compulsion on the component parties to remain in or leave BN. - October 23, 2025
