ROBLOX has pledged to enhance its safety measures for users by deploying artificial intelligence alongside human monitoring, following concerns raised by Malaysia’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh, over the wellbeing of children using the platform.
Speaking in a Facebook post on Monday, Hannah Yeoh highlighted the importance of creating a digital environment that is not only fun but also builds the right values and character for the next generation.
"We want a digital world that is not just entertaining but also instils proper values and character for the generation to come," she said, sharing a photo of herself with representatives from Roblox.
Hannah noted that Roblox now has over 100 million users worldwide, including more than one million in Malaysia.
"With such reach, the responsibility to protect young users cannot be taken lightly. As Minister of Youth and Sports and also a mother, I am concerned when I see how certain online games can influence children’s behaviour and emotions," she added.
The assurances from Roblox came in the wake of a tragic incident last Saturday, when a six-year-old boy was seriously injured after being slashed by his nine-year-old brother in Kampung Parit Nipah, Parit Raja, Batu Pahat.
Preliminary investigations by Johor Police Chief Ab Rahaman Arsad indicate that the elder sibling may have harmed his younger brother after becoming upset over a disrupted Roblox game in which he lost all his accumulated points.
Hannah said Roblox had expressed readiness to cooperate with the Malaysian government, particularly in sharing data and ensuring compliance with local regulations, reflecting growing scrutiny over online platforms’ impact on children. - November 3, 2025
