A MALAYSIAN man has been convicted in Singapore for orchestrating an elaborate online deception in which he posed as a rich Caucasian ‘sugar daddy’ to lure women into sexual exploitation and extortion schemes spanning Singapore and Malaysia.
Rajwant Singh, 38, faced 16 charges and was found guilty on four counts, including cheating to obtain sex and extortion. Prosecutors described his conduct as “horrifying and deviant” and have asked the court to impose 13 years’ imprisonment along with 15 strokes of the cane.
According to the prosecution, Rajwant targeted women on dating platforms such as Tinder, presenting himself as a wealthy white man supposedly living aboard a yacht in Malaysia. After arranging meetings, he would appear in person pretending to be the supposed man’s driver before assuming the false identity of the ‘sugar daddy’ to pressure the women into sleeping with him.
He further threatened to release explicit videos of the victims unless they transferred money or provided other benefits. In one instance, a woman was promised US$30,000 a month in return for a sexual relationship. She later travelled to Penang, sent explicit recordings and was coerced into sex work, with all earnings handed to Rajwant. She reported the offences in October 2020.
Rajwant was ultimately arrested in a joint operation between the Singapore Police Force and the Royal Malaysia Police. He admitted to his scheme in 16 statements, claiming he needed the money to support his family, though prosecutors noted he showed no remorse during the trial.
Prosecutors told the court that Rajwant was “in truth a serial rapist” and that his actions were “morally depraved, sadistic and malicious”. The judge has adjourned sentencing until January next year. - November 28, 2025
