THE discovery of a dead baby girl behind a supermarket in Section 25, Shah Alam, has prompted a police investigation into suspected concealment of birth and abandonment, authorities said today.
Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ramsay Embol said police received information from members of the public at about 7.30am on Saturday, before patrol officers were dispatched to the location to verify the report.
“The baby was confirmed dead by the medical team,” he said in a statement.
Ramsay said a forensic team from the Selangor police contingent headquarters arrived at the scene to collect evidence and items that could assist the investigation.
“Initial investigations found that the baby is suspected to have been born elsewhere and dumped at the scene,” he said. “The baby is believed to have been abandoned approximately seven to eight hours before being discovered,” he added.
According to him, investigations are continuing to gather all available evidence and statements from the surrounding area.
“The baby’s body was sent to the Forensic Unit of the Pathology Department at Hospital Klang for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death,” Ramsay said.
“Police have opened an investigation paper under Section 318 of the Penal Code, which involves the offence of secretly concealing a birth, whether the baby died before or after delivery,” he added.
“Any individual with further information can contact the investigating officer, Inspector Ahmad Mokhsin Abdul Rahman, at 011-17554394,” he said.
The incident caused alarm in the surrounding commercial area of Section 25 when the lifeless infant was found wrapped in plastic and left in a back alley behind the supermarket on Saturday.
Ramsay said police were alerted to the discovery after receiving information from the public through the Shah Alam district police headquarters control centre.
“Police officers on patrol were then deployed to the scene to confirm the discovery of a baby girl inside a plastic bag,” he said.
“Initial investigations found that ambulance personnel who were contacted confirmed that the baby had died,” he added.
“Further investigations are still ongoing to trace any evidence and obtain statements from members of the public around the area,” he added. - December 21, 2025
