TUN Dr Mahathir Mohamad has suffered a fracture to the right hip following a fall about 7.30am at his house today.

"This follows a medical assessment. Tun is expected to be admitted for the next few weeks for treatment and observation," said his press secretary Sufi Yusoff.

Tun M was earlier taken to the National Heart Institute (IJN) about 9,30am following the fall and was reported to be conscious.

In a new development, the former prime minister is said to be in good condition and recovering well after being admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) earlier today, his daughter Marina Mahathir confirmed.

Marina stated that the centenarian was taken to IJN following a fall but reassured the public that his health is currently stable.

“He is feeling better and under medical observation,” Bernama reported her saying, though she did not provide further details regarding the cause of the fall or whether he sustained any injuries.

The 100-year-old statesman, who served as Malaysia’s prime minister for a total of 24 years, has a long history of receiving care at IJN for heart-related conditions.

Despite his age, Dr Mahathir has remained publicly active, occasionally attending official and political events over recent years.

No official statement has yet been issued by IJN, but further updates are expected as more information becomes available. - January 6, 2025
