A WOMAN was found dead with three stab wounds to her body at her home in Taman Sultan Abdul Halim, Jalan Tanjung Bendahara, Alor Setar, today.

The victim, Zaharullail Basir, 52, worked as an operations executive at a bank.

Kota Setar District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Syed Basri Syed Ali, said at 8.45 am today, police received a call from the victim's son informing them of a murder involving his mother.

The victim is suspected of being stabbed in the body, in addition to being hit on the head.

He said the incident is believed to have occurred early this morning before one of the victim's children found his mother unconscious in a pool of blood.

"The examination found three stab wounds, including on the upper left chest, in addition to injuries to the wrist and wounds to the head and face, as well as stab wounds on the left palm.

"The examination also found that a handbag containing jewellery, some cash and a mobile phone were missing.

"So far, the motive for the murder is still being investigated and police believe that this incident may involve the victim's children," he said.

Syed Basri said the victim is believed to have lived in the house with her three children and efforts are underway to arrest the suspect.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code. – February 2, 2026
