DAP has urged the government to establish a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to probe allegations by a foreign media outlet regarding the existence of a 'corporate mafia' and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) being used by certain companies as a tool to achieve personal interests.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said the allegations by the foreign media outlet must be taken seriously by the government.

"The government must address this issue effectively to defend the credibility of the MACC institution through the establishment of an RCI to thoroughly investigate the allegations and propose measures to prevent abuse of power in the institution," he said in a statement today.

Loke said this after the monthly meeting of the DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) last night.

Loke also expressed DAP's disappointment over the failure of the Dewan Rakyat to pass the Federal Constitution Amendment Bill (RUU) to limit the Prime Minister's term to 10 years.

He also called on the government to re-table the bill in the next parliamentary session to realise the important reform agenda.

According to him, DAP also supports the government's decision to refer the Attorney General and Public Prosecutors' Separation Bill to the Special Select Committee.

"DAP remains committed to supporting the institutional reform agenda in the government and not compromising on any form of abuse of power and fully supporting the agenda of fighting corruption," he said.

Last Tuesday, the Dewan Rakyat passed a motion for the Constitution (Amendment) Bill (No. 2) 2026 relating to the separation of the roles of the Attorney General and the Public Prosecutor to be referred to a Special Select Committee.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, while tabling the motion, said the Special Select Committee would examine the Bill, including the accountability mechanism for the Public Prosecutor. – March 5, 2026
