KELANTAN’S Sultan Ismail Petra Airport has been recognised as the most modern and aesthetically developed domestic airport in Malaysia following the completion of its latest upgrade phase.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said today that the airport achieved this distinction because its first-phase terminal upgrade is currently the newest completed government airport development project in the country, unlike other airports that remain under ongoing expansion works.

“So, for now, LTSIP is the most modern and beautiful domestic airport in the country,” Bernama reported him saying.

He was speaking at the official opening of the new LTSIP terminal.

Loke said the upgraded airport should be fully utilised to strengthen tourism flows into Kelantan and support broader economic benefits for the state and the country.

“Certainly, we hope this airport can be fully utilised to attract more tourists to Kelantan, and that this collaboration will continue to benefit both the people and the country,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation to all parties involved in delivering the project, including staff from the Ministry of Transport, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, the Kelantan state government, contractors and other stakeholders responsible for completing the development.

The upgraded terminal is expected to improve passenger capacity, service efficiency and overall travel experience, positioning the airport as a key gateway for domestic travel in Malaysia’s east coast region. - April 18, 2026
