A 10-YEAR-OLD child is feared to have drowned after falling into a drainage channel and being swept away by strong currents during heavy rainfall in Bandar Puncak Alam, Selangor prompting an ongoing search and rescue operation.

Emergency services were alerted hours after the incident, with firefighters deployed to the scene as efforts continue to locate the missing child.

Assistant Director of Operations for the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department said the agency received a distress call at 7.47pm regarding the incident at Lorong Cakera Purnama 12/27 near Kuala Selangor.

A team of six personnel from the Bestari Jaya fire station was dispatched to the location.

“Upon arrival, personnel were informed by members of the public that the victim had fallen into the drain at 3.30pm and was swept away by strong currents during heavy rain,” he said when contacted.

Search and rescue operations are currently ongoing as authorities work to locate the child. - April 29, 2026
