THE Women’s Wing of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Central leadership has strongly criticised the actions of 14 UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) Negeri Sembilan assemblymen who collectively withdrew their support for the state government, describing the move as a betrayal of the stability mandate given by the electorate.
In a statement issued today,it said the development not only undermines the Unity Government but also disregards the needs of citizens facing economic pressure and rising living costs, arguing that political stability should take precedence over what it described as narrow political manoeuvring.
“When the country is facing economic challenges and cost-of-living pressures, this action clearly demonstrates the narrow priorities of those involved, who are willing to sacrifice stability for political power manoeuvring.
“Wanita KEADILAN also reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to defending the role and function of the institution of the Malay Rulers as guardians of the sovereignty of the Constitution,” it said.
The statement follows the announcement by 14 UMNO and BN Negeri Sembilan assemblymen who declared their withdrawal of support and loss of confidence in the state administration led by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
However, Aminuddin later stated in a press conference that he would continue to carry out his duties as Menteri Besar following a directive from the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, to ensure the state government continues to function.
Pakatan Harapan (PH) has also responded to the development, with its communications director Datuk Fahmi Fadzil previously describing the move as inconsistent with the spirit of the Unity Government and rejecting what he characterised as an attempt to destabilise the state administration.
He also said the justification given by the 14 assemblymen was not related to the performance of the Menteri Besar.
Exco Meeting Proceeds As Normal
Despite the political tension, the Negeri Sembilan state executive council (Exco) meeting proceeded as scheduled on Wednesday in Seremban, reflecting efforts to maintain administrative continuity.
According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Menteri Besar, Ahmad Shahir Mohd Shah, the post-meeting press conference will be held at 1.30pm at the State Operations Room in Wisma Negeri.
The meeting, chaired by Aminuddin, is understood to have focused on state administration and public welfare matters, in line with the royal directive from Tuanku Muhriz for the government to continue functioning as normal.
The development is seen as an effort to ensure governance is not disrupted despite ongoing political uncertainty that has yet to reach a clear resolution.
The crisis was triggered by the announcement of the 14 UMNO assemblymen withdrawing support and declaring loss of confidence in Aminuddin with immediate effect.
However, the Menteri Besar has maintained that he will continue to lead the state government until a clear majority in the State Legislative Assembly is established, in accordance with the royal guidance of Tuanku Muhriz.
He also confirmed that four Exco positions previously held by UMNO assemblymen are considered vacant following their withdrawal of support.
Among those affected is Negeri Sembilan UMNO chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, who previously held the senior Exco portfolio covering rural development, plantations and commodities, as well as agriculture, food security and cost-of-living matters.
The other UMNO assemblymen in the state executive council were Datuk Ismail Lasim (Education and Human Capital Exco), Datuk Mustapha Nagoor (Youth and Sports Development Exco), and Datuk Mohd Faizal Ramli (Heritage, Technology, Innovation and Digital Exco). - April 29, 2026
