DEPUTY Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will hold discussions with UMNO assemblymen from Negeri Sembilan in the near future amid growing political uncertainty surrounding the state administration.

The development was disclosed during a Cabinet meeting earlier today, according to government spokesman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, who said the matter was raised by Zahid, who is also UMNO president.

Fahmi said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said at the meeting to reaffirm that the Negeri Sembilan government remains fully operational and stable despite recent political developments.

“Regarding political and administrative issues concerning the Negeri Sembilan government, the prime minister stressed that the state administration is functioning as usual and that the federal government will not interfere in matters related to customary affairs.

“On the position of Umno-BN state assemblymen in Negeri Sembilan, Zahid informed the cabinet that he would be meeting them soon,” he said at his weekly press conference.

He added that the Cabinet had been assured that the Unity Government at both federal and state levels, including in Negeri Sembilan, remains intact and continues to function as normal.

The political tension in the state follows reports that all 14 UMNO assemblymen had collectively withdrawn support and declared loss of confidence in the state government led by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

Negeri Sembilan UMNO liaison chief Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias was previously reported to have said the move stemmed from dissatisfaction over issues involving state customary institutions and constitutional matters, which he claimed had implications for governance and political stability.

The forthcoming meeting between Zahid and the UMNO assemblymen is expected to address the coalition’s internal position and explore the next course of action as the situation develops. - April 29, 2026
