THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is collaborating with Meta and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to carry out forensic analysis into an investigation involving an online post believed to contain insulting content directed at His Majesty Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the probe is ongoing after an individual questioned by MCMC denied uploading content suspected of containing elements related to the 3R sensitivities of royalty, religion and race.

“Among the matters under examination is whether there are elements of fake accounts or provocation agents who deliberately created accounts to upload content that then victimises other parties while also inciting public anger,” he said.

Fahmi, who is also the government spokesperson, made the remarks during a briefing on the global supply crisis and a post-Cabinet press conference on Wednesday.

He said authorities are not ruling out the possibility that fake accounts may have been used to disseminate the controversial content, adding that further clarification will be issued by PDRM and MCMC once investigations progress.

“We do not rule out the possibility that such fake accounts were created to upload 3R-related content, and we leave it to PDRM and MCMC to issue further statements,” he said.

The investigation stems from a case in which MCMC recorded a statement on Monday from an individual identified as the administrator of a Facebook account named “HuaYan The Pureland Learning Centre”, over a post allegedly involving insulting imagery targeting the Sultan of Selangor. - April 29, 2026
