Melaka BN signals mix of fresh, seasoned faces for state polls

MELAKA Barisan Nasional (BN) has indicated it will field a balanced list of candidates comprising both experienced figures and new faces for the next Melaka state election.

Its chairman, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, said the approach was aimed at giving opportunities to the younger generation to learn the ropes of administration.

“During my time as chairman of the state Umno liaison body, I introduced more than 86 per cent new faces (in the previous Melaka state election).

“We must be fair to the future generation. We need to build this state together so it becomes a legacy for future leadership,” he said as reported by Bernama.

The fifth session of the 15th Melaka State Legislative Assembly is scheduled to end in December, paving the way for the state polls this year.

Commenting on PAS’s target to contest 16 out of the 28 state seats, Ab Rauf said it was the party’s prerogative.

“The state election is an open platform. Umno (and BN) will continue to contest in the seats we previously won,” he said. – April 29, 2026
