THE government is set to make its national digital identity system compulsory for access to the MyJPJ application from May 1, requiring users to register their devices under MyDigital ID to continue using the transport services platform.
The move marks a significant expansion of the government’s single sign-on initiative, which aims to streamline authentication across multiple public sector applications while strengthening cybersecurity through device-linked verification.
Under the new system, users will no longer be able to log in directly to the MyJPJ without first authenticating through MyDigital ID, which functions as a central digital identity gateway.
The platform operates as a unified login system that allows users to approve access requests using either a password or biometric authentication, such as fingerprint or facial recognition, on a registered device.
This means access is tied to possession of the device as well as successful identity verification, adding an additional security layer.
The rollout comes as MyDigital ID continues to expand its user base, with nearly 10 million registered users recorded in mid-February 2026.
The system is targeting 17 million users by the end of 2026 as adoption accelerates across government and private sector platforms.
To register, users must first download the application from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and grant permission for camera access to enable electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) verification.
Applicants are then required to accept the privacy policy, enter an email address, and verify it using a one-time password sent to their inbox. They may choose between registering online or at a designated kiosk.
Those opting for kiosk registration must scan a QR code displayed at the terminal and follow on-screen instructions. Online users proceed with identity verification using a selfie-based facial recognition process before setting a secure password.
Once completed, users must enter personal details, including their full name and MyKad number, before finalising the eKYC process. Biometric login options can then be enabled for easier future access.
From May 1 onwards, MyDigital ID will be the sole authentication method for MyJPJ, with users redirected to the MyDigital ID app to approve login requests.
The system is already being used across several other government platforms, including the National Integrated Immigration System, MyBayar PDRM, and myPTPTN.
It is also undergoing integration testing with 18 banking institutions as part of wider plans to extend its use into the financial sector. - April 30, 2026
