FORMER Damansara MP Tony Pua had his statement recorded by police over his social media post surrounding royal decrees and the Rukun Negara.

According to Pua, his statement was taken in Petaling Jaya at 4 pm today.

He was initially called to the Shah Alam police headquarters.

Earlier, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Comm Datuk M. Kumar said police had received a total of 77 police reports against Pua.

Yesterday, police opened an investigation paper against Pua following a Facebook post that allegedly touched on sensitive issues related to the Constitutional Monarchy and Rukun Negara.

Investigations are being carried out under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for statements conducive to public mischief, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

"I provided full cooperation to the two very professional Shah Alam IPD officers. The process took about 40 minutes

"As part of the statement, I affirmed that I had written the Facebook post myself, without duress from any other parties," he said.

The DAP Disciplinary Committee chairman had reportedly issued a statement saying that Malaysia practices a Constitutional Monarchy system in which the powers of the Malay rulers are generally limited to certain aspects.

The statement is believed to have been made following the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah's, decree advising Seri Kembangan state assemblyman Wong Siew Ki and former Selangor executive councillor Ronnie Liu to visit Dataran Selangor once a week to understand and appreciate the true meaning of the Rukun Negara. – May 21, 2026
