Johor election: EC to meet on June 12 to decide important dates

THE Election Commission (EC) will hold a special meeting on the 16th Johor State Assembly General Election on June 12.

EC Secretary, Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus, said the special meeting will be chaired by EC Chairman, Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun, to discuss important dates such as the date of the election writ, nomination and polling day.

He said the meeting will also discuss the electoral roll that will be used and other preparations to carry out the election.

"The EC has officially received a notice from the Speaker of the Johor State Legislative Assembly (DUN), Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi, regarding the dissolution of the 15th Johor State Assembly on June 2, 2026, as stipulated under Clause 23 (2) of Part Two, the Johor Constitution 1895.

"Based on Clause 23 (4) of Part Two, the Johor Constitution 1895 requires an election to be held within 60 days from the date of dissolution of the State Assembly," he said in a statement today.

Khairul Shahril said a press conference would be held as soon as the special meeting was over.

In a separate statement, Khairul Shahril said that the application process for postal votes within and outside the country for the 16th Johor State Assembly General Election has been opened starting today.

He said that it involves postal vote applications for all categories, namely Category 1A (Policemen, Military Personnel, Election Officials, EC Members/Officers, and Media Personnel), Category 1B (Malaysian citizens living abroad), and Category 1C (agencies/organisations).

"All postal vote applications must be made online at the link https://myspr.spr.gov.my and eligible voters who wish to vote by post must register or have a MySPR account before making an application to vote by post.

"The closing date for postal vote applications for all categories will be announced later. For any enquiries or further information, please contact 03-88927080 or email [email protected]," he said. – June 5, 2026
