JOHOR Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi has given an assurance that PAS will not be part of the Johor state government if BN returns to power and he is reappointed as Menteri Besar.

According to him, the people of Johor need to know that PAS will not be part of the government administration ‘under any circumstances’.

“I want that to be clear,” he said as reported by Sin Chew.

Onn Hafiz said that the claim that PAS will be part of the state government is just a political narrative aimed at confusing the Chinese community in Johor, ahead of polling day this Saturday.

He also denied that he had agreed to allocate appointed State Assemblyman (ADUN) positions to PAS in exchange for the party contesting only 11 seats in the state election (PRN).

Onn Hafiz, who is also the Johor Umno chief, noted that BN was clashing with PAS in the 11 seats, while stating that the situation was proof that there was no form of cooperation with the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.

“Have you seen me campaigning in Maharani or Kahang and other constituencies where PAS is contesting? I personally went there to campaign for BN’s candidates,” he said.

Earlier this week, DAP candidate for Skudai, J Kartiyaini, called on BN to reveal whether it had allocated appointed assemblymen positions to PAS as part of a silent political understanding in the Johor state election.

Just yesterday, PAS president, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, said the party was ready to support BN in forming the Johor government if the coalition failed to secure a simple majority.

The Marang MP also said that PAS would not seek the Johor Menteri Besar or state government Exco positions.

A total of 56 seats in the state assembly are up for grabs, while a simple majority is reached at 29 seats. BN won 40 seats in the 2022 state polls. – July 9, 2026
