THE Election Commission (EC) will implement a pilot Optical Character Recognition Voter Attendance (OCR-VA) system during the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of election management processes.

The pilot project will be conducted at Sekolah Menengah Agama Dato’ Klana Petra Maamor, covering Channels 1 to 7 for the Ampangan state constituency, as part of the EC’s broader initiative to digitalise election procedures.

EC Secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus said the OCR-VA system was developed to scan and verify voter information against the EC’s official database while automating the recording of voter attendance in real time.

He said the technology was aimed at improving the speed and effectiveness of voter verification processes, while supporting smoother operations at polling centres.

The pilot implementation will allow the EC to assess the system’s performance and suitability before considering wider adoption in future elections. - July 31, 2026
