FOUR people, including a woman and a five-year-old boy, were killed after a tree fell on the four-wheel drive vehicle they were in on Jalan Janda Baik, Bentong, this evening.

Another five-year-old boy involved in the incident suffered severe injuries.

The incident is believed to have occurred at around 12.30 pm when their vehicle was hit by a tree, killing four victims, while a child was successfully helped by the public.

Assistant Director of the Operations Division of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Pahang, Mohd Salahuddin Isa, said they received an emergency call regarding the incident at 1.05 pm.

“There were five victims in the vehicle involved, namely two adult men, an adult woman and a child trapped in the vehicle, while another injured child was helped by the public before being sent to the hospital,” he said in a statement today.

According to him, firefighters used special equipment to cut through the vehicle and extract the victims who were still trapped.

"The 35-year-old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Also killed were a 36-year-old woman who was seated in the front passenger seat and a five-year-old boy who was on her lap.

"A 40-year-old man who was seated in the rear of the vehicle also died in the incident," he said.

Another five-year-old boy, who was seated in the rear of the vehicle, survived but sustained injuries and was taken to Bentong Hospital for treatment.

It is understood that at the time of the incident, the 4WD was travelling from Bentong towards Janda Baik.

The identities of the four victims have not yet been determined. – August 3, 2026
